The Adventures of Remington Steel
I was only 64 days old when I made my first escape.
My capture thought it was a freak
thing; maybe someone left the cell door open. I didn’t get very far. With my
next escape they decided maybe it was an inside job. I must have a friend on the
inside that let me out. They still weren’t wise to me. They couldn’t believe I
escaped on my own. On my third escape, I seemed to be alone in the compound.
Perfect time to make a run for it. I just put my beak under that cell door, used
all the strength I had to give it a big lift, and I was out. A free bird at
last. The compound walls are high though. I searched and searched for a way out
of the compound. There were many obstacles in my way. I don’t know how long I
was out. I didn’t have food, I didn’t have water. I was a thirsty bird, but I
still kept searching for that escape route. It was almost dark when I was
re-captured. I was put back in my cell under the strongest lock down this time.
Now they knew. They might not be too bright, but they finally figured it out. I
was going to have to work hard to show them I am smarter than they are. My
captures seem to be pretty decent folk though. They brought me plenty of water
and food, which I flung in anger at the thought of my re-capture. They even
nursed me back to health when I wasn’t feeling well the next day. They also try
to give me a little more yard time now, strictly supervised under high
surveillance. They might be OK. I am going to have to work really hard on my
next escape plan. I have missions to accomplish.
