Remi Goes Exploring

My captors brought me out of the compound.

It was a beautiful day. I could see the sunlight coming in through the big window. I can smell freedom. It’s only a sweet soar away. I’m flying…… Flying….. Free at last. Oh no, what happened to my wings, their not all the there. The dreaded of all fates, I’VE BEEN CLIPPED!  I’m loosing altitude, falling fast; the ground is speeding up at me. I’m down. Thank heavens. It was a bit of a rough landing though. I don’t know where I am. My destination of the big window to freedom has been dashed. Now here I am, unprotected in this fuzzy field of brown, with who knows what beasts lurking behind the big objects. Speaking of beasts, here comes one now. She must weigh all of at least 4 pounds. She is gigantic. She’s running at me full speed. There’s nowhere to hide. She bowls me over like a feather (no pun intended). She gives me a nudge. This way, that way. Will she eat me? I fight back, wings outstretched and beak open hissing. I give a good peck. It doesn’t make contact. She’s dealt with parrotlets before. She doesn’t eat me. She pushes me in the direction of my captors.

One of them picks me up and straightens my feathers. They talk to me. They tell me I am a beautiful bird (I already knew that). They start to scratch my head. Whoa ….. I could get used to this.

Back at base camp (I’m starting to think of the compound as home), I settle in for the night. It has been quite an experience and a long day. I need to get my birdie rest. I have more dangerous sights to see tomorrow.
